Nothing's Changed - Comprehension Activities Booklet!
This 16-page resource booklet contains a wide range of challenging and engaging comprehension activities for use throughout the reading of Tatamkhulu Afrika’s poem 'Nothing’s Changed.’ They are perfect for aiding the progress of students learning poetry either in KS3 and KS4 in preparation for poetry/unseen poetry at GCSE, as the tasks draw on English Literature assessment objectives - suitable for all examining bodies - it is clearly highlighted within each task regarding which assessment strands the task is designed to demonstrate.
The booklet is provided in both Word (to allow for easy editing) and PDF (to ensure for consistency of formatting between computers).
Activities within the booklet include (amongst many others):
‘Analysing Context’ - helping students to ‘Show understanding of the relationships between texts and the contexts in which they were written.’
‘Analysing Subject Matter, Language and Structure’ - to help students to ‘Analyse the language, form and structure used by a writer to create meanings and effects, using relevant subject terminology where appropriate.’

Edexcel Time and Place Poems Comprehension Activity Booklets!
These 16-page resource booklets contain a wide range of challenging and engaging comprehension activities for use throughout the reading of all 15 of the Edexcel ‘Time and Place’ poems from the newest anthology. Teachers have found the activities particularly useful throughout teaching, or for exam revision or guided reading sessions. They are perfect for aiding the progress of students towards meeting the key English Literature assessment objectives. Students have found these resources extremely engaging, and it is clearly highlighted within each task regarding which assessment strands the task is designed to demonstrate.

Fantastic Mr Fox Pointless Game! (and template to create your own games!)
Based on the popular game show 'Pointless', this resource is perfect for use as a whole lesson resource, enrichment option, or revision tool. Editable, so that you can change to any other topic or change questions. (I've also added a blank template so that you can make your own games from scratch). Containing almost 30 slides of sound clips, interesting tasks, and suitably challenging questions, this resource is effective at both promoting engagement and enhancing learning. There are several full rounds of questions to build or revisit knowledge of characters, plot, and themes in 'Fantastic Mr Fox.'

The Theme of Peace - Assembly
This fun and original assembly assists children in understanding the value of peace, through:
Understanding what peace is, and recognising why it is important;
Looking at examples of behaviour that is peaceful and not peaceful and considering what can be done to promote peace;
Learning strategies to demonstrate peacefulness in their own lives.
This session is tried and tested, and has always been really well received in the past. The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people.
The session also includes a link to a powerful and engaging video, showing children how their small input can help to create peace in the world. Furthermore, there are interesting scenarios (with scripts provided) that enable children to consider how to act peacefully in different situations. Various discussion prompts are also presented, to enable children to understand how peace can be a force for good in their own lives.
The slides are fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve included to pages of notes to assist the speaker. Hope that you find this useful!
Dulce et Decorum est - Language Devices and Context
This is a fun, engaging, and highly informative lesson/set of tasks on Wilfred Owen's war poem 'Dulce et Decorum est. This has been taught during an observation lesson where the teacher received an Outstanding judgement.
It comes complete with:
- Engaging and visual PowerPoint to guide students (and teacher!) through the lesson;
- Colourful and thought-provoking worksheet for the main analysis task;
- Lesson plan/ teacher guidance sheet, which goes through the lesson step-by-step;
- Resources to enable the teacher to make 'flags' for the development task.
As well as building students' knowledge of the text, they also learn crucial analysis and speaking and listening skills, in addition to using and applying key terminology.

Pride and Prejudice - Elizabeth and Darcy's Relationship Graph Task!
This interesting task provides students with an opportunity to track Elizabeth and Darcy’s relationship throughout ‘Pride and Prejudice.’
Students first rate Elizabeth and Darcy’s feelings for one another at different points in the text on a 1-10 scale, plotting their rating on the graph. They then justify the rating with an explanation and textual evidence, in the table beneath.
It’s great for helping them to see how the relationship develops over the course of the text, and also offers a novel cross-curricular link with maths.

Fireworks Night Assembly!
This fun and original assembly is designed to teach children all about Firework Night, including:
-Why we have firework night (the Gunpowder Plot);
-Why firework night is fun for so many people;
-How firework night can be dangerous without safety precautions;
-Top tips for staying safe on firework night.
The slides are visually-engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. A script is provided (in both Word and PDF formats) for playing out the events of the gunpowder plot. It includes links to well-chosen videos to emphasise/ reinforce key points, in addition to suggested entrance and exit music.
There is enough here for a 30/ minute assembly (it is 17 slides long, plus a 3 page script), but of course you can cut bits out/ tailor to your own individual needs. No further resources are required, everything that you need to present the assembly is included.The assembly was originally pitched at primary-aged children (KS1-KS2), but would be suitable for older children with only minor vocabulary/ language adaptations.
